Second Saturday Tips

Posted on August 21, 2020 – Cooper Ginsberg Gray PLLC

What is Second Saturday?

For those of you who are curious about Second Saturday and what it entails, every month’s workshop is an opportunity to hear one of our attorneys give a presentation about the way that the divorce process works in Virginia.

Procedural questions are answered, options are presented, and we strive to give you the best overview of the process possible.

We also frequently have special guests like financial planners  present on topics like how to successfully plan finances during your separation and divorce.  CGG’s own divorce coach, Dr. Leah Nathan, is also a frequent presenter about the emotional aspect of divorce.

How the Workshop Benefits People Considering Divorce

When people talk about divorce, many terms get tossed around. For example, you may have heard the phrases “division of assets,” “equitable distribution,” “fault and no-fault grounds,” and “date of separation.”

If you have ever wondered what those terms meant or how they could apply to your situation, the workshop is a great resource for you.

We also make sure to include a section at the end for divorcing folks who have children. If that situation applies to you, you can remain logged on and hear some more information about how the Virginia courts handle separations and divorces involving custody and visitation.

Recent Topics Discussed at Second Saturday

On the Second Saturday of this month, CGG attorney Stephanie Smith walked attendees through a PowerPoint virtual presentation and explained the process of divorce in Virginia.

Then Bonnie Sewell, a financial planner and great friend of the firm, gave a presentation on how divorce affects joint and individual assets, and about what steps you can take to protect yourself through the process.

After Bonnie’s presentation, Stephanie circled back to talk about divorces that involve custody, visitation, and child support issues.

Throughout, CGG attorney Dan Gray answered questions through the online chat feature throughout the presentation.

Virtual Divorce Workshop

We offer all of our Second Saturday workshops virtually at this time, due to the impact of COVID-19 on the Northern Virginia area.

While we welcome chat questions, we do ask that attendees remain muted until the question and answer sessions so that there is no noise interference for the presentation.
